Respect for Aes Sedai

Posted by Ashen Shugar on 23.01.01 00:00

I think that Cadsuane will teach the Asha’man to respect Aes Sedai. Obviously they will not like this, but it is something that I think is necessary. The Aes Sedai of the Age of Legends were well respected by all for how they helped society. Most people of the current Age do not respect Aes Sedai in that manner. They either fear them, or have an open dislike of them.

The Aes Sedai and Asha’man will never earn the world’s respect if they are fighting among themselves and cannot get along. Cadsuane will teach the Asha’man to respect Aes Sedai, and this will be the first step towards both groups earning the respect they once held.

wotmania says: This is sort of what I think is going to happen. I think Cadsuane is going to teach the Asha’man an idea or a value, not necessarily something that has to do with the Power. After all, there is not much an Aes Sedai could teach an Asha’man about the Power.

What's with all this saying "I think Cadsuane will teach this..."? It's obvious that she's going to teach them how to laugh and cry again. I figured it out the first time the books practically spelt it out. Come on guys, it's really obvious!

In agreement with prior post

In Book 8 Cadsuane and Sorilea agree to teach rand to laugh again. Min has also had her viewing of Cadsuane teaching Rand and the Asha'man something. What she isn't sure. It only makes sense to put the two together. The Asha'man are being trained to be hard weapons just like Rand. If they are so hard they break what good will they do Rand at TG.

They call me the Fireman

do they deserve it?

for all the bitching that the AS do about Rand being arogent they are 3 times worse. They dont deserve the respect of the Asha'man or anyone else for that matter. I for one am glad Rand is putting them down a notch or 2.

Respect, and who deserves it................

Maybe Cad will teach Rand (and the Asha'man) humility, or laughter, or whatever, but what I want to know is who is going to teach the AS the same. Far and away, they are the most ARROGANT bunch of bitches (real or imagined) I've ever seen. The AS (male and female) in the Age of Legends havnt come across like that, so why should they do so now? Because they wield Saidar? Respect is earned, not required.

A two-way street

It seems fairly obvious to me that the teaching will be fairly mutual. Cadsuane will teach Rand and the Asha'man some humility. At the same time, Rand will teach the Aes Sedai something of temperence. Rand's already starting to teach them some humility by subjecting them to him (actually it's the Wise Ones doing the teaching, but as a result of Rand gaining control over the AS). The Guardians will balance the Servants--maybe that refers more to temprament than numbers. I don't know if I really believe that, but it's worth a thought.

I agree that the AS need to be brought down a rung or 10. We already know what Cad is going to teach them. But As the post above me says, I also think it will be circular. In that the ashaman or at least Rand will do a little teaching of his own.

Moiraine is the only one who understands that if you want him to work with you, you have to work with him. No one else, AS or otherwise, has seem to grasp this concept. The sad thing is that it is the AS, Wise Ones, and nobles who have made him so paranoid. If anything I would like to see some of them admit it without first having Rand, Taim, Ashaman, or whoever punishing them first.

For being so smart and powerful the AS are incredibly blind to such a simple thing as human compassion. TG is fast approaching and everyone is squabbling over is going to be the one to lead rand into the Last Battle.

On Aes Sedai Respect

I have to disagree slightly with the previous 2 posts. Though certain factions of the Aes Sedai community are arrogant and unhelpful, many, most notably the Salidar tower, have a genuine desire to work with Rand to win the Last Battle. Rand is as arrogant as they are for not realizing this.

Cadsuane will teach trust

Other than the madness, the thing most responsible for bringing down the AoL was a lack of trust. Aes Sedai couldn't link to destroy shadowspawn and enemies, because they could not trust one another. People were turning darkfriend right and left, men were going inside like flies dropping in winter. There was no trust, so there was no coordinated strength and effort.

When she teaches them all how to trust one another, then she has forged perhaps the greatest weapon the world might ever find against the DO, Dreadlords, or anyone else.
