Logain and the Taint

Do you recall Nynaeve Healing Logain? If I remember correctly when Nynaeve has been breaking the shield separating Logain from the Source she felt something peculiar - something that should not be there. And she fixed it!

What do we see in Snow? Logain is trying to find out how she Healed him. He is very interested in all details. Why is he doing this? Simply to protect the Asha'man from being gentled? I do not think so. There must be more behind this. I believe that there are two possible explanations:

  1. Logain is stronger in Power than he used to be and he wants to make his Asha'man stronger than Taim's.
  2. Logain does not feel the taint any more! Nynaeve has Healed the vulnerable place in his talent, and he wants the same for other male chanellers.
Both are possible but for me the second one is more convincing.

wotmania says: Well, I do not know whether or not Logain is significantly stronger in the Power than he used to be - I seem to recall Jordan saying he was as strong as he used to be. I also doubt Logain is free of the taint, but I don't feel like writing an entire paragraph about that. In any event, it will certainly be interesting to see the exact reasons for Logain's interest in the Healing of severing.

bare with me:
nynaeve healed logain and he was as strong as ever but when she healed siuan she wasn't as strong

i think taim will learn how nynaeve healed him and either use this knowledge himself or pass it on to another ashaman
and they will be able to heal siuan to any sister who has been cut off from the souuce to her former strentgh

i think male has to heal female and female has to heal male for stilling to be completely healed

did you read all of winter's heart before you wrote this. if you did then you must not believe that they cured the taint eh? anyway SUPPOSSEDLY they cured the taint in winter's heart so that rules out on theory. on the other theory. that really is hard to make find since it is stated earlier(not sure where and could be wrong) that everybody has a fixed power limit.

Well, just because Rand removed the taint later doesn't mean that Logain wasn't immune to it before. The Forsaken were immune to it while it was still there, so it IS remotely possible that there was another way to do it, and Nynaeve found it.

But I like the first theory better. What Nynaeve said was [paraphrase] "Logain had to be as strong in the Power as he used to be, or else he was fearsomely strong in the Power before."

This is her view, and rarely is one character's view on a subject enough to prove anything.
He might actually be stronger now. If so, and if he knows what caused it, and if he's smart, it would explain his research.

However, I don't think that Logain, being an male channeler who was captured and gentled, is weeping over the fact that Aes Sedai have been stilled. Even though it makes sense that males heal females and vice versa...the only women that have been stilled permanently are Reds who attacked Rand. Why should he help them?

One last thought to stir the pot: The only other plot thread that involves Logain is Min's vision of glory. Could that be related to his un-severing research?

I personally don't think that just researching something that someone else already did is going to give Logain the kind of glory that Min has seen around him. I believe that it is going to deal more with the division of the Asha'man and his part in bringing them back to Rand, and (hey why not shoot big) Logain leading the Asha'man to take the black tower to Tar Valon and then onto the last battle.

logain may just realize that only men can unsever women and only women can unsever men, has anyone else noticed that?(ie. logain's healing vs suian and leanes)

logain could just be trying to find a way to heal stilling in case it happens to anyone sworn to him

because Nynaeve isn't in the black tower

It's as simple as that. Obviously the ability to reverse severing would be considered valuable by any group of channelers. But at that point the ability as far as he could see only belonged to the Salidar group, giving them an advantage. At this point he was still unaware that an Asha'man had also been able to duplicate the feat. He wanted somebody in the Black Tower to learn the skill simply because it's a valuable skill.
