There Will Be Channeling After Tarmon Gai'don

Posted by Rielle on 21.01.01 00:00

Of course there will be channeling!

First of all, look at the repercussions on those who can channel. It would be the same as being stilled! For those of you worried about Rand, Elayne, and Aviendha living longer than Min with channeling - without, they likely won't live very long at all! The old Aes Sedai, Kinswomen, Windfinders, Wise Ones, etc., will probably die, and the young ones, including the Asha'man, will wish they had.

Secondly, the One Power is what keeps the Wheel of Time turning. For those of you who think the Wheel will stop, look at Oliver's theory - the Fourth Age writings in the book. If you accept that the Wheel will keep going, how can the source that turns it be gone?

Third, for those who are concerned about Min dying before the rest: What makes you think they'll live so long? There's a very good chance of any or all of them dying at the Last Battle. And maybe something to do with her viewings will cause her to live longer also.

Well, that's my theory, and I'm sticking to it. The first part is the main basis for it.

wotmania says: Hmmmmmm... That is a good point you make - those who have been channeling and are forced to live without the One Power tend to have rather short lives. But perhaps that is because they can still sense the True Source, as a constant reminder... Also, I cannot imagine that Jordan would kill off Rand, Elayne, Min, or Aviendha. I will be disappointed if Tarmon Gai'don ends with all the major good guys alive, but I think those four are pretty safe. I just love to play devil's advocate...

The Source doesn't have to be gone

Maybe people just can't channel any longer.

wont die

Since Min, Elyane and Aviendha will be sitting "three on a boat, and he who is dead yet lives" or something like thast, and this seems to be after the Last Battle, it seems likely enough to assume the three girls will live through Tarmon Gaidon.

steddings are places without the one power

... and channelers are unable to stay there for very long as well, see the male channelers who sought refuge
from the taint in the stedding. They couldn't bring themselves to stay there even when going out and starting
to channel again meant going crazy and die. I think the only possible conclusion is that long stays in the
stedding are the same as being stilled and therefore in most cases fatal. This is one of my first attempts so
please be nice.

Well...

Are these repercussions more important than defeating the DO? And do you really think the Wheel cares about such minor difficulties?

I submit that the One Power does not turn the Wheel. It's been said by various characters, but can we be so sure they know the absolute truth? Also, Jordan has said that our modern world is one of the Ages. Where're the channelers, then, if the OP doesn't go away for a time?

response to rielle and the gleeman

I agree with rielle ,there will be channeling after the last battle but not sure exactly what form it will take. To the glee_man who's to say that people can't channel now. What about people who can heal and do reiki and bend spoons. Maybe thats the Talents we have nowadays Spoon Bending! admitedly it's a bit crap compared with Travelling and Foretelling.
I also don't think we need to worry about Min dying before the rest. Who knows maybe something in her bond will keep her alive cos we all know that no one has ever bonded a woman before Birgitte so who knows? Or maybe Nyneave Samitsu and Dammer Flinn will rediscover the healing from the AOL cos they all lived a lot longer in those days.
P.s. I'm new to this so someone else has probably thought of this before now!! ta

Nicola's foretelling

Posted by MalkieriChik on 08.08.04 16:47
Maybe this is irrelevant but in LOC pg. 353 Nicola has a foretelling: "The lion sword, the dedicated spear, she who sees beyond. Three on a boat, and he who is dead yet lives. The great battle done, but the world not done with battle. The land divided by the return, and the guardians balance the servants. The future teeters on the edge of a blade."

The Servants and Guardians mean the Aes Sedai and Asha'man and how would they be significant if they could no longer channel? So channeling will certainly not mark the end of the third age, though i admit it may be forgotten/lost in the distant future.

No...

There will be no channeling after TG. Just because no one can channel doesnt mean that there is no True Source to drive the wheel. They'll be the true source and OP, just no one to use it.

Completely agree

with MalkieriChik's reasoning. Im happy someone has (to my mind) finally worked out whether we'll have channelling later on or not.

sigh. now i must find a new forsaken to root for.

Forgetfulness

Posted by Kariath Malakhan on 02.10.05 21:29
It's not a matter of the One Power being 'destroyed', it's just that, given time, we will forget how to channel. Once upon a time, all member of our species knew innately how to hunt wild animals - I'm sure most of those who dwell in cities have forgotten this skill, through lack of need. Perhaps once Mat's industrial pioneering discoveries will make the One Power less useful, and the people will simply not bother to learn to channel when they can learn to forge machines.

oh well

if peaple die after it is all said and done it wont make a difference. The story is about what will save the world not who will live in it .I hope that the major peeps dont die but they will sooner or later and that is the way it gos.
